Autel TS508 Toyota TPMS Programming Review

 The Autel MaxiTPMS TS-508 does everything without the need to use techstream and let me tell you it's the most idiot proof tool I have ever seen. Everything is set that you follow the instructions that are in step.


It can only program Autel blank sensors (That's giving the sensor am identity to make it a sensor for the vehicle in question and add an ID.) And Autel MX sensors are the only fully re-programmable sensors, Can Take a set programmed for an Avalon and even installed change them to be for a newer version even as a HI-LINE sensor (those that display position on newer models).


When doing a relearn procedure (entering new IDs into the ECU on Toyota it even unlocks the ECU from endless loop the TMPS search will cause. You can't enter new sensor IDs with Techstream if ECU is locked searching for a sensor. There's a 2 pin DLC jumper trick to unlock it manually but the TS 508 makes sure it's unlocked. Reason that it does it now automatically is it's so frequent it's unbelievable.


You can clone, manually create ID's or have the tool generate them.

Can program up to 16 sensors at once. All makes of sensors have a battery life between 5-10 years. Usage plays a big part along with temperature.


Can scan any car's sensors. Gets ID, temp, tire pressure and battery status.

Can enter any sensor ID though the DLC connector. (Relearn procedure)

Can diagnose read and clear TPMS DTC codes, also it can read ID's set in the ECU.

Few make/models can only be cloned but they update (free lifetime) regularly as new models are added.


DENSO sensors (pacific) are pretty much all fake clones on E-Bay, Amazon and most third-party sites. They're cheap to make and the Toyota prices are high. Perfect counterfeit item. Rock Auto has no genuine proof since the parts are sold by them and drop shipped in their name from many different sources.


The only way to get real ones is through an honest Toyota dealership and even an online Dealer is expensive.


Makes an awesome tire pressure gauge too. Point, click and repeat all 4 wheels. Longest part it is walking around the car to scan each tire. No need to unscrew cap to check unless air needs to be added or removed. With the tire temperature also displayed sometimes there's a big difference between parked in my garage bay and the actual temp outside. +/-10F is a change of 1PSI, I can compensate for the difference. And a sensor reading is more accurate than a tire pressure gauge,


 You can scan and diagnose and use whatever brand sensor you want if it's the correct one for your car or use Autel and program or better yet clone them.


Autel TS508 can do everything except install it in the wheel and it needs someone to press the buttons and plug it into the OBD2 port when needed.

Launch X431 TSGUN vs Autel TS508 Which is Better

 Both Launch X431 TSGUN and Autel MaxiTPMS TS508 are very efficient TPMS tools for tires.

This is a TPMS sensor. Both of them can program the sensor.  Here we make a comparison to tell you the plus and the minus of both.

 

They have different prices. Autel TS508 this one can work alone. It does not need a tablet or software. You have everything included but also the price is double at this moment.

The price is really double the launch product the TPMS TSGUN.

 

I like TSGUN more because when you forget to program a sensor you can also program it after that when the tires have pressure inside.

With TS508 if you have pressure on the tire you cannot program the sensor. You should program the sensor before install it on the on the tire and charge it pressure.

 

This is one plus from the launch, the price is also second plus from the launch. But TS508 it can run alone, we don’t have the tablet. You know it depends which option it shows on your tablet, it can be from 1K euro to 5K euro. But Launch x431 tablet has many other addon modules, videoscope, immobilizer programmer, ADAS, battery tester etc. You can also run Diagzone. With Autel you have to buy separate devices with different functions.

 

Both of them have the same functionality, both of them make good work.

Launch tsgun is much cheaper and is the most that i use it because I don’t need to pre-install the sensor on the car.

 

Let’s see how these things work. You know how these programmers work actually when you try to install a new TPMS sensor in the car this one will not be able to program it.

programming is too much thing they have the database from all of the cars inside. for example each car they have at least 8 sensor inside for the summer in the winter.

 

If you have already in his memory for example TSGUN. let’s say eight sensors for Audi and also another one eight sensor for Audis and all the time units are actually the same.

Serial number for this sensor try to look when you program a sensor try to look when you program on different cars and on the same cars, you will see he will give you the same ID number of this sensor like most of the time I pay attention on the cars it will allocate me for five series the same ID number of that sensor and then the car who will believe its original sensor, but it’s not true it’s just a fake sensor they just use the data from original sensor and you you’ll be able to put it inside on the sensor this is the way how it works.

Actually both of them they are not programmable both of them they are tools who can clone the original sensors.

Pros:

It has great battery life and fast speed.

Makes TPMS calibration work much easier
You can scan, program and diagnose TMPS sensor.

Cons:
It is not a stand alone unit,  have to pair with X431 tablet ( you need to select the car first . You have to exit the diagnostic program before you can use the tpms function)

Failed work on some models (i.e Opel Astra K, Nissan Juke 2016, 2012 Chevrolet Camaro.)

 

 

Autel TS508 Pros & Cons

Pros:
Has a powerful rechargeable battery
Enables user to manually input OE ID into MX-Sensor.
It has a 4 MX-Sensor programming options for convenience
Connects with the TPMS module intilizing OBD2 cable for sensor ID relearning
Indicated vehicle specific relearn procedures.
Offers faster and smarter TPMS repairs with two service modes.
Free sofware updates.

 

Cons:
It is somehow challenging to update

 

But both of them make good work and of course we can use it if you think logically they are not programmers they are tools who clone the TPMS sensors.
Programmers is the OEM from the factory and who can allocate the different ID numbers.

It now depends on you which tool do you have. If you have launch x431 product I recommend you the TSGUN if you don’t have it and you must buy separately just buy TS508.

Program Audi R8 TPMS with Autel MaxiTPMS PAD

 Just want to do this simple writeup and let everyone know I had great success with this method.


Instead of programming / reset a new set into the R8, clone the TPMS sensors to fool the car it still using the original TPMS sensors

1. Buy a AUTEL MAXI PAD ($49.99 )

2. Buy Autel MX-Sensor Dual Frequency (315MHz + 433MHz) Screw-in OE-Level Universal Programmable TPMS Sensors for Tire Pressure

3. Install and Open the Autel MaxiTPMS Pad Software. Go to AUDI Make and Select R8 specific
to your year.

4. Go to Copy Sensor Tab. Place the Autel MaxiTPMS Pad next to each stem of the TPMS Valve next to the tire and click TEST. This function will copy the code of the Factory TPMS Sensor ID. Once it beeps and test successful, place the new AUTEL TPMS Sensor on the PAD and Click Program. I copied and cloned each sensor one at a time and marked each sensor LF, RF, LR, RR.

Once it's all done I got the sensors mounted and install the new rims/tires on the R8. No TPMS lights or anything. The car didn't even realized anything had changed.

Overall cost was under $200.

Program Jeep Summer Tires with Autel MaxiTPMS PAD

 Spring is coming and it’s time to replace a set of summer wheels. This is a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 (WK2). The programming procedure can be applied to other models.

Back in the summer, I bought myself a new set of tires. The tires on which I bought the car were already worn out, cracked, etc. Last season I decided to ride on it, and for this summer to change tires. Both old and new tires are the same Pirelli Scorpion Verde runflat 295 45 20. I don’t want to leave the runflat, even though it is heavier.

Initially, there were no sensors in the summer wheels, I think they were stolen from the previous owner during painting and ordinary valves were installed.
The Chinese sensors in the winter kit showed themselves perfectly, they registered themselves, they didn’t give a single error for the whole winter. So I decided to repeat the experiment.
On Aliexpress , another set was ordered at number 56029398AB.

Then i ordered the Autel MaxiTPMS pad.

The main task of the device is to make clones of original sensors on any car from Autel sensors, but it also has the function of checking any sensors, this was the main point, to check Chinese sensors before installation. It also often happens that the id number written on the sensor does not match the number registered in the sensor, and if it is necessary to register the sensors manually, this will be a problem.

In general, the jeep is waiting for the installation of the summer, let’s see how the sensors register. There were no problems with winter roads, they registered immediately, they never failed during the winter.

Program 2018 Toyota Tacoma TPMS by Autel MX Sensor

 Some asked: is there a TPMS sensor in the spare on 2018 Toyota Tacoma?

 

The answer is: No… turd gens only have 4 slots of memory for tpms numbers… you have to get a tpms installed in the spare and either 1.) Get a shop or dealer to program tpms locations if you rotate the spare in 2.) Buy a programmer to do it yourself (what i did) or 3.) you dont rotate your spare and be comfortable not knowing what the psi is…

So, I used the Autel TS508 tool… Found out the tool only reprograms AUTEL MX-TPMS‘s… but will read/write any “OEM” sensor… Programming IS needed BUT it is recognized as OEM by the Autel TS508…. I “relearned” all the tire positions by scanning all the tpm’s… new auto part store tpm included… and boom… TS508 read/rewrote all scanned sensors… Truck is 100% good and tire pressure displayed after a few dozen yards of movement lol

I’m going to install the MX-TPMS, I can clone / program it with the TS508 and every tire rotation just “relearn” positions… less than 5mins to do the “programming”.

Okay fellas….

Truck never threw a TPMS light but the pressures never appeared on the dash… I drove a lot this morning….

I said screw it and I used my tool and “relearned” positions, it all worked… more importantly, proved the MX sensor is read and recognized by the truck/ECU

Currently I have two NON-OEM sensors on the truck and my tool was able to write the ID’s to the ECU without a problem. One TPMS is from Orielly’s Auto Parts and the tool was able to write that one no problem…. the MX-TPMS needed programming since it is a universal tpms…. the tool was able to do that no problem.

Verdict?!

Tacomas only have 4 slots of TPMS memory…. programming the 5th will NOT allow you to “relearn” tires after full spare rotation by simply using the tpms button on dash…. sorry

While the tools require you to scan a 5th (Spare) TPMS and the ECU “learns” 5 sensors…. when you extract the info, it only calls out 4 slots of memory…. I can’t explain it and it really doesn’t matter to me anymore…. I have the tool and it is exactly doing what I need it to do.

if you guys want to save money, I highly recommend the Autel TS508…. in retrospect, I would have paid the additional $250 for the All-in-one tool to read Engine trouble codes and diagnostics, but I’m okay with keeping my bosh for the motor and this for the tpms.

 

it really is that easy to relearn all your tires.

Program Aston Smarttire System Sensors by Autel TS401

 Question:

Can we clone the original (my car is an Aston Martin 2007) Smarttire system sensors with Autel? And the whole system is about $1500?. That's favorable to getting this done a couple times at a dealer, right?



Solution:

The Autel MaxiTPMS TS401 has the ability to program Autel MX universal sensors, which are around $20-$25. I've used the TS401 and the MX universal sensors on other cars and they worked without any problems.

I've not tried to program the MX universal sensors with the DB9 Smartire system yet; however, all indications seem that it's doable. Indications meaning -- I was able to pull the codes of the Smartire and the Autel site link I provided above seems to indicate that Smartire codes can be copied to the MX sensors. I've not done it yet -- mainly because my sensors are fine, but I'll likely experiment in the spring out of curiosity. I will, however, pull all the codes off the sensors and store them -- in case the sensor batteries die before i have a chance of testing it.

Related, the $1K+ MaxiSys MS906TS does an excellent job on reading the codes, resetting the service light,  program TPMS sensors like the TS401 etc. for a number of the higher end vehicles.


Below are instructions for programming a 433 MHz Autel MX sensor to support a Smartire system.


Relearn Procedure:

Please note:

If new ID is created for the this sensor, OE tool is needed to perform relearn.

With Autel tools, the only solution is to copy the OE Sensors' IDs, and no relearn needed.

There are two methods to copy the OE sensors' IDs.


Method 1:

1. Please perform a rapid tire deflation while pressing the trigger button on Autel tool to receive sensor data.

2. Then use the 'Copy By Activation' function to program Autel sensor.

3. Install the duplicated Autel sensor to the location corresponding to the OE sensor.


Method 2:

1. Uninstall the OE sensor, a series of numbers (173-1-1-XXXXXXX) are printed on its surface, among which XXXXXXX is the OE sensor's decimal ID.

2. Use the 'Manual Create' function to program Autel sensor.

3. Install the duplicated Autel sensor to the location corresponding to the OE sensor.


Note:

If necessary, please pay special attention to the sensor ID format conversion when using the 'Manual Create'.

I used method 2 and it worked perfectly. Went ahead and replaced all 4 SmarTire sensors. Saved a fortune.

Mercedes 2012 E350 convertible TPMS Relearn with Autel

I changed the wheels on my new to me 2012 E350 convertible. I went with aftermarket wheels. During the process I decided to just go with a new set of TPMS sensors.
Immediately after driving the car away from the tire shop I noticed my TPMS was not working as I thought it would. Constant yellow tire light and “tire pressure system inoperative”.

TPMS I purchased was Autel MX-sensor from obdii365.com for about $120 (set of 4).

You’ll need to purchase a TPMS programmer, I got mine from Autel and it covers almost all sensors including OEM.

For reference TPMS out of the box are not programmed at all and need this In order for a vehicle to recognize it.

Here are the steps that worked with no problem.

1. Deflate tires completely flat.
2. Get your Autel MaxiTPMS TS401 and turn it on.
3. Find your make, model, year, sub model.
4. Press and hold Y
5. Select auto create
6. Press and hold Y again and go to the front right wheel, hold the device near the stem, and within seconds you’ll here a chime on the device meaning it’s been recognized.
7. Press and hold Y again and do the remaining 3 wheels.
8. Once you complete this process back out to where you original chose car.
9. Press and hold center button that looks like a wifi but symbol.
10. Machine promotes you which wheel to start with.
11. Again, once machine finds TPMS when held near stem the device chimes. Press and hold the symbol again and repeat until complete.
12. Once officially complete you’ll have a list of all 4 sensors you scanned and activated.
13. Re-Inflate tires.
14. Go for a ride. TPMS may still say inoperative. After driving for a few miles and nothing happens, pull over, turnoff car. Restart and drive again, tire light should start flashing and within minutes your pressures should appear on the screen.

Autel TS508 Program Chrysler SGW TPMS

 How to use Autel TS508 to Program Chrysler SGW TPMS Sensors?


Automobile manufacturers are developing solutions to protect their vehicles' networks from unauthorized access, including potential cyber-attacks. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) recently implemented a secure gateway module that was introduced on a selection of their 2018 and newer model vehicles. For those vehicles with the secure gateway module, access to certain diagnostic functions requires registration and authentication through an approved device for all aftermarket scan tools. Because of the sure gateway module, it is not possible to write new TPMS sensor ID's to the TPMS module.

To install new Autel 1-Sensors on a Chrysler product equipped with an SGM follow these 6 simple steps using the Autel MaxiTPMS TS508.

1.Make sure TS508 or TS508WF has the latest update
2.Use Advanced mode to select your year make and model
3.Select Option 2: Program Sensor
4.Select Option 1: Copy by OBDB
5.Program each sensor, one-at-a-time, make sure each programmed sensor in installed in the proper wheel position.
6.Service is complete


By using the Copy by OBD programming method we are using the information that is already stored in the car's computer. We are not introducing new sensor ID's and therefore eliminating the need for a relearn. We are simply providing the sensor information that the cars computer is looking for.

Autel MaxiTPMS vs. Bartec Tech TPMS tool

Being a tire and service technician for several years, I sometimes encounter several vehicles (Toyotas included) with problems related to the sensors in their tire pressure monitoring systems. I saw them with broken valve stems, dead batteries, no sensors inside the tire (unless they're indirect or they're not equipped with TPMS in the first place since Canada doesn't make it mandatory like the United States and several countries worldwide since 2008) and, once in a blue moon, one sensor that self-destructed to pieces inside the tire. Fixing them is easy, once you know what you're doing with the right replacement TPMS sensor and diagnostic tool to pinpoint the faulty sensor and perform a proper relearn. The shop I work with uses a dual-band Schrader EZ-Sensor (#33500) and a Bartec Tech 400SD TPMS tool with OBD-II capability. They're great to have, but the software support for the tool ends on December 21, 2020.

Looking at the options to replace the tool, I saw one that attracts the interests to tire shops and suppliers: the Autel MaxiTPMS TS508. Being a combination TPMS tool with OBD-II capability, it has all the right features for the shop to activate and diagnose TPMS sensors, plus free lifetime software updates. Of course, that comes with a catch. With any TPMS tool with free lifetime software updates, you're stuck with programming one kind of universal TPMS sensor. In the case with the TS508 (or any Autel TPMS tool), the tool can only program Autel's MX-Sensors. Whereas with the Bartec (along with Ateq's VT-56 and its derivatives), you can program a variety of aftermarket replacement TPMS sensor, but you have to pay a hefty subscription fee to keep your tool up to date. Drawbacks aside, I gave the latest MX-Sensor a try. I was impressed with the highest vehicle coverage, the ability to change valve stems from rubber snap-in to metal clamp-in at the push of a button, and the capability of programming up to 16 MX-Sensors at once.

Which Tool to Pair 2019 Toyota rav4 TPMS Sensors?

Car model and year: 2019 Toyota rav4

Purpose: looking for an aftermarket or OEM device that would allow me to pair my TPMS on my winter tires.

Advice:
Toyota uses a proprietary system, Honda, and Chrysler for example don’t and I understand if you install an unprogrammed module itself programs with those makes, I just updated the TPMS from some winter tires on a 17′ Rav4 to a 19′ Rav4 and the TPMS sensor had to come out and be placed in the TPMS programmer to accept the new car data, I looked for one to buy, read here somewhere someone bought one from Tire Rack, called them, they disagreed, they had nothing, so.
Find a friendly tire jobber and try your luck, I understand Toyota can do it, but then you have to reprogram every winter summer wheel switch.

Background:
After the TREAD Act was mandated in 2007, all vehicles manufactured in the United States beginning in 2008, must be installed with direct or indirect TPMS systems.

The Toyota RAV-4 is installed with a direct TPMS system, which means there are TPMS sensors in the wheel. If one or more tires indicate low tire pressure, the TPMS sensors will transfer the information to the vehicle’s ECU. An indicator light (low-line TPMS system) or each tire pressure will show on the dash (high-line TPMS system).


A TPMS relearn is recommended after a sensor replacement or tire rotation. When services are performed, such as a tire change or TPMS sensor replacement, in one or more tires of a Toyota RAV-4, a TPMS relearn must be performed to transfer the sensor information to the vehicle’s ECU.

Type of TPMS system:
Direct TPMS, sensors are installed in the wheel

Sensor Frequency:
315MHz
Type of TPMS tool required for TPMS reset:
Option 1: Techstream and mini VCI interface cable ($20-$30) on a laptop will work fine.
Techstream can program the car and is essentially free but not the easiest to use. It also has a ton of other uses (e.g. program key fobs).

Option 2: Autel MX-sensor TPMS sensors can be cloned to match the IDs of your existing sensors – no need to then program the car when swapping wheels. Sensors are ~$25 each, the programmer/reader is another $50. I am running this setup on a Lexus, Rav4.4 and a Nissan.

Option 3:  Carista Android/iOS app can program the car. I got mine for $40/lifetime but they since changed to subscription model ($9 per day IIRC). The good thing is that it is possible so likely someone else will come up with a cheaper alternative soon.
